Peter Harris Fund almost there

PH

Just over £500 was added to the Peter Harris medal fund from the Pompey History Society charity bucket collection ahead of the game against Bristol City on Saturday.

That now leaves the fund with just under £1,000 to raise in the next ten days to reach its £25,000 target, which will enable the society to buy Harris's two gold championship medals from the 1949 and 1950 seasons.

Colin Farmery, society chair of trustees, who has been leading the fundraising effort, said: "Considering the weather this was a tremendous amount to have raised, although the cash was still wet from all the rain when we counted it on Monday. Once again, I can only thanks fans for the generosity."

Fans can still donate online at the society's PayPal page here: < https://www.paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=W5W7QHWX9TYMQ>

The final fundraising event of the campaign, which started in August 2024, is the Evening With Barry Harris on Thursday December 11 (7pm) at Fratton Park.

Harris started his 'career' at Pompey as mascot, aged eight, in 1952 and has been involved ever since. He will be in conversation with writer Gary Tipp, who has just published Barry's autobiography, True Blue: A Pompey Man For All Seasons, which will be on sale at the event priced £9.99.

Tickets, priced £5 for history society members and £10 for non-members, are still available here <https://www.tickettailor.com/events/pompeyhistorysociety/1942308>
