Final Push for Peter Harris medals
Posted on 27th Nov 2025 by David Taylor

The Pompey History Society’s fundraising campaign to buy Pompey star Peter Harris’s two gold championship medals from 1949 & 1950 is into the final furlong, with just £1,500 needed to hit the target by December 12.
The charity launched the campaign 15 months ago, in the name of former member Gerry Spraggs, with the aim of raising the money by December 2025 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Portsmouth-born, England international Peter Harris’s birth.
On Saturday, before the match, the society will have volunteer collectors stationed around Fratton Park, but there will also be the facility to take online payments at the Jimmy Dickinson statue and outside the Frogmore Road entrance.
And the society has a couple of fundraising events coming up in the next week and is asking fans to dig deep to get the fund over the line.
At Saturday’s game against Bristol City (12.30pm), the society is holding a bucket and virtual collection pre-match, then on Tuesday December 2, it is holding a curry night at the Akash restaurant in Albert Road (6.45pm).
Tickets for the curry evening, priced at £25, are available here. Tickets can be bought until Sunday midnight : https://www.tickettailor.com/events/pompeyhistorysociety/1942222
There will be a raffle on the night for some excusive pieces of Pompey memorabilia, including a 125th anniversary shirt signed by the 2024 men’s championship-winning squad.

Colin Farmery, Chair of Trustees, said: “The response to our campaign so far has been fantastic, but we are asking for fans to make that final effort to ensure a unique piece of Pompey history is preserved for future generations.
“Peter is the only Portsmouth-born player to have won two medals and played for England. Provided we raise the money, the intention is to put the medals, as well as other elements of Harris’s effects we already have in the archive, on public display early in the new year.”
Fans can also support the society by becoming a member for just £10 per annum. Fans can sign up here: https://membermojo.co.uk/pompeyhistory
