February Newsletter

Last week we had our latest evening event where George Malcolmson told us all about the work of Stephen Cribb who photographed the club, the Royal family and the Royal Navy before he became Pompey's Chairman. Colin Farmery then told us about the life of Peter Harris. Don’t forget to watch the full interview between Brian Moore and Peter Harris from 1999 on our website - it can be found here Enjoyed our Peter Harris talk? Now watch the video... - Pompey History Society It was another great evening so “thank you” to both the presenters.

There are four things to update you on:-

Hilaire 31) Our next event is on 5th March at 10.30am and is “A Morning With Vince Hilaire” where Vince will tell us all aboutHilaire 2 his career in conversation with Colin Farmery. It will be in the Legends Lounge at the club and we’ll send you a reminder nearer the event but your tickets can be reserved in advance using the link below:-https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-morning-with-vince-hilaire-tickets-1245996461959?aff=oddtdtcreator

2) The Hall of Fame Dinner. Every year the society and Former Players' Association induct players into the Hall of Fame and this year is no different. The dinner will be on 11th April in the Victory Suite at the club. Tickets are £55, tables seat 10. All proceeds from the dinner will be going to the Gerry Spraggs Fund to buy Peter Harris's two championship medals. The society has reserved two tables, so if you would like to sit with us reply to this email and we will send you information about how to reserve your space. Demand is expected to be high, so get in quick.

3) If you were with us last week you will have heard Richard Atkins-Greig brief us on the new “Past Chimes” monthly podcast from the Society, broadcast on Express FM. The first pilot event, using Mick Comben as a “guinea pig” (no comments please!) airs on Sunday, February 23 at 9pm and will also be available post broadcast as a podcast.

4) Mick updated us last week on the forthcoming South Stand anniversary at the start of next season. Our intention is to pull together a set of memories from fans who have sat in the stand over the years; their experiences, the famous people they have seen sat in it like George Best; perhaps meeting Viscount Montgomery (“Monty”) after the war, etc etc. So if you have anything that you would like to share and are happy for the memory and your name to be included in an exhibition of the stand’s history then please do send it into us at history@pompeyfc.co.uk or by replying to this email and we will try to include it.

In addition, a number of you have asked how you can purchase Mick's book, The Making of Modern Pompey on the formation of the club, online. All profits from the book go to the Gerry Spraggs fund but your member discount doesn’t work online, to get that you have to purchase a copy at one of our events. For online sales here is the link:-
