September 5-11: From Defeat At Villa To Putting Seven Past The Toffeemen At Fratton

Monday 5:  The Pompey team for the match at Aston Villa tonight is unchanged from that which beat Middlesbrough 5-1 on Saturday: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Delapenha, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt. Kick-off is at 6pm. 

The final whistle has sounded at Villa Park and Pompey have been beaten for the third time in four matches.

Pompey went down 1-0 at Aston Villa tonight after an injury to Lindy Delapenha left them with 10 men for the entire second half. Powell scored for the home side on 55 minutes. Earlier, Pompey wasted a number of chances to go in front.

Tuesday 6:  How two of the daily papers are reporting Pompey's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa last night.

Pompey's troubles are not over, according to Ranger in today's Evening News. 

Wednesday 7:  Pompey's inside-right Lindy Delapenha is expected to be out for several weeks. He injured both ankles in Monday night's defeat at Aston Villa. Duggie Reid will return to the side against Everton at Fratton Park on Saturday (10th).

Friday 9:  Pompey return to Fratton Park action tomorrow after a sequence of three away matches. They face Everton and will be hoping to record their first home win of the season. 

Duggie Reid returns to the Pompey forward line against Everton tomorrow in place of the injured Lindy Delapenha. The full team is: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt.

Pompey Reserves will field the following XI against Bristol City Reserves at Ashton Gate tomorrow afternoon: Leather, Yeuell, Rookes, Elder, Thomson, Spence, Dawson, Gordon, Asher, Pickett, Bennett. 

Pompey "A" are in Hampshire League action at Romsey Town tomorrow. Team: Aslett, Turner, Mansell, Gunter, Howard, MacDonald, Smith, Pearson, Robson, Hunt, Henwood.

Pompey include Bill Albury in their under-16 side to face the Army Apprentices at Arborfield tomorrow. Team: Weaver, Bradshaw, Buckingham, Edwards, Daysh, Albury, Davies, Stout, Warren, Green, Wilkinson.

Saturday 10:  The first copies will be available at the Evening News offices in Stanhope Road at about 5.20pm. Elsewhere in the city centre from 5.30pm. 

Another good-sized crowd is packing into Fratton Park for this afternoon's match against Everton. The teams will line up as per programme. Can Pompey register their first home win of the season? Kick off is in 15 minutes. 

It has been an astonishing afternoon at Fratton Park where Pompey have recorded their biggest league victory for 22 years.

Duggie Reid hit a hat-trick as Pompey overwhelmed Everton 7-0 at Fratton Park this afternoon. Froggatt and Reid put Pompey two-up at the break, then Reid, Phillips, Harris, Clarke and Reid (again) turned the match into a rout in front of 36,012.

Pompey's 7-0 mauling of Everton at Fratton Park this afternoon was their biggest victory since they trounced Notts County 9-1 in a Second Division match on the ground in April 1927.

Pompey must love playing Everton! This afternoon's 7-0 win was their sixth successive victory against the Toffees. Last season they beat Everton 4-0 at Fratton Park before swamping them 5-0 at Goodison Park a week later.
