October 18-24: Unbeaten run comes to an end

Thursday 21 Councillor J T Triggs, Chairman of Governors of St Luke's School, has paid tribute to Pompey captain and school old-boy Reg Flewin (pictured) for putting Portsmouth on the map. Cllr Triggs was speaking at the school's annual prize-giving ceremony.

Portsmouth are appealing for information leading to the identification of a spectator with a whistle who has disrupted play in the last two home matches. On one occasion the rogue whistler halted play when it appeared Harris was certain to score.

Jack Froggatt's injury may not be as bad as we had feared. The outside-left took a heavy challenge before half-time in last Saturday's match against Sunderland, but trainer Jimmy Easson says Froggatt could be fit to face Wolves on Saturday.

Friday 22:  Froggatt has recovered from his knee injury and will take his place in the Portsmouth side to face Wolves at Molineux tomorrow (3pm). Pompey: Butler, Rookes, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Barlow, Reid, Phillips, Froggatt

Pompey Reserves entertain Arsenal Reserves in an attractive-looking fixture at Fratton Park tomorrow (3pm). Pompey: Humpston, Yeuell, Drummond, Bowler, McCoy, Thompson, Brown, Delapenha, Clarke, Elder, Parker

Goalkeeper Charlie Dore and inside-right Johnny Gordon, both of whom have appeared for Pompey 'A' team in the Hampshire League this season, have been selected to play for Hampshire against Wiltshire in the FA Youth Competition at Melksham tomorrow

19481023_WolvesSaturday 23: Pompey are hoping to extend the unbeaten start to their Golden Jubilee season to 14 matches at Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon. Kick off is at 3pm and we'll have all the news of the game shortly after the final whistle sounds at Molineux

Pompey’s magnificent unbeaten run has ended with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Wolves. Two goals down at half time, Pompey turned in a spirited second half display, but they conceded a late third goal and return south empty handed.

Pompey went behind in the 25th minute when Billy Wright fired a free kick directly into the roof of the net.

Three minutes later Pompey found themselves further behind. A cross from the left found Hancocks, who turned and fired off a shot that Butler was unable to hold.

Pompey made a determined start to the second half. A Duggie Reid strike was disallowed for offside, then Froggatt, Barlow and Phillips all saw efforts come back off the woodwork.

Pompey's efforts to claw their way back into the match were undone when Wolves scored a third. Smyth swung a boot at the ball on the edge of the area. His effort seemed to be way off target before it was deflected in off a defender.

Despite this unexpected set-back Pompey remain at the top of the First Division table, but Derby’s victory over Chelsea means their lead is reduced to goal average.

Match Summary: Wolverhampton Wanderers 3, Portsmouth 0

Pompey Reserves lost their unbeaten home record when they went down 2-0 to Arsenal Reserves at Fratton Park this afternoon. The attendance of 13,300 was the biggest for a Reserves' fixture this season.

Match Summary: Portsmouth Reserves 0, Arsenal Reserves 2

Sunday 24: Portsmouth manager Mr Bob Jackson missed his team's defeat at Wolverhampton yesterday. He is said to have been in Scotland scouting a player.

A first defeat for Pompey. The Reserves surrender their home record. Five goals for Charlie Wayman at The Dell.

Last night's Football Mail did not make for pleasant reading.
