October 25-31: Pompey held by Bolton

Monday 25: England selectors have picked the team to meet Wales at Villa Park next month, but have ignored calls to bring in Pompey's Jimmy Dickinson (pictured left). Instead, they have moved Wolves' Billy Wright from right-half to left-half, and have called up Ward of Derby

The Hampshire Football Association has confirmed that Sunday football will not be tolerated, and those who disregard the regulations will be dealt with severely. [From today's Portsmouth Evening News]

Saturday 30 It’s a cold, grey afternoon for the Pompey v Bolton Wanderers match at Fratton Park. Kick-off is at 3pm. We’ll bring you the full time result and news of all the action shortly after the final whistle.

Pompey surrendered their 100% home record with a rather lacklustre display in a goalless draw with Bolton at Fratton Park this afternoon. The result, combined with Derby’s win at Birmingham, means the Rams replace Pompey at the top of Division One.

Pompey nearly went ahead in the opening minutes but Bolton goalkeeper Elvy pulled off a fine save from Froggatt’s header. Bolton threatened sporadically in the opening 15 minutes but it was mostly Pompey who took the initiative.

Reid, playing his 100th league match for Pompey, tested Elvy with a fierce drive that the ‘keeper couldn’t hold, and Froggatt’s follow-up effort was scrambled to safety.

Dickinson was patched up just before half-time after a challenge left him with a cut above his left eye, and the young wing-half was able to continue.

Pompey became somewhat laboured in the second half, and were guilty of some rather tame finishing. As the half wore on Bolton seemed to find their second wind and for a while it looked like they would sneak the win.

The match petered out and the spoils were shared. The final whistle may well have come as a relief to the crowd of 29,760, Pompey’s lowest of the season so far.

Match Summary: Portsmouth 0, Bolton Wanderers 0

Pompey Reserves, despite being the better side, suffered a 1-0 defeat at Fulham in the Combination League this afternoon. The match went ahead despite the fog which hung over London for much of the day, making visibility poor.

Match Summary: Fulham Reserves 1, Portsmouth 0

Portsmouth are out of the Hampshire Senior Cup. The “A” team lost 1-0 at Romsey this afternoon, thwarting their ambition to improve on last season’s run to the semi-final of the competition.

Pompey's game this afternoon was their last 3pm kick-off of the year. Next week's match at Liverpool will kick-off at 2.45pm, and the next home match, against Blackpool, will be a 2.30pm start. Don't forget to put your clocks back one hour tonight!
