November 1-6: The Sports Mail Is On Sale In London As Super Pompey Beat Chelsea

Tuesday 1:  Pompey have completed the signing of Bradford Park Avenue's Scottish international full-back Jimmy Stephen for a fee said to be in the region of £15,000 - a club record.

Wednesday 2: Portsmouth Reserves 4, Luton Town Reserves 0 (Mid Week League)

Friday 4:  Pompey are awaiting the outcome of Duggie Reid's fitness test before naming their team to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow. Reid has recovered rather slowly from a bout of 'flu. Reg Pickett is again on standby to deputise.

Pompey's line-up at Chelsea tomorrow will be: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Spence, Dickinson, Harris, Reid OR Pickett, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt. 

Pompey Reserves face Brighton and Hove Albion Reserves at Fratton Park tomorrow. The Pompey side will not be named until tomorrow lunchtime. Kick-off is at 2.30pm. 

Saturday 5:  Duggie Reid has passed a late fitness test and will will take his place in the Pompey side to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. Team: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Spence, Dickinson, Harris Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt 

Heavy rain is falling at Stamford Bridge but it isn't dampening the spirits of the thousands of Pompey supporters who have descended on West London this afternoon. Their side will play in red shirts and white shorts. Kick-off is 5 minutes away. 

Pompey picked up two vital points from a well-deserved 4-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. Jack Froggatt put Pompey in front on seven minutes. Billington equalised for Chelsea but Ike Clarke restored the lead before half time 

Pompey continued to dominate in the second half. Clarke scored his second - and Pompey's third - after 68 minutes. Froggatt completed the rout by tapping-in after Medhurst had fumbled a cross 10 minutes from time.

Liverpool have deposed Wolves at the top of the First Division table, with 23 points from 15 matches. Wolves are on 22 points, Manchester United 21, Arsenal 21. Then come Pompey, who are in fifth place with 18 points from their 15 matches. 

Ken Ames, playing his first match for Pompey Reserves, put his side in front against Brighton Reserves at Fratton Park this afternoon. Cavanagh equalised for the visitors but Johnny Gordon scored a winner for Pompey.

Tonight's Football Mail, carrying Ranger's report of Pompey's fine win at Stamford Bridge, can be purchased this evening at Waterloo station and from the vendor in Piccadilly Circus.

Sunday 6:  “If there is a better football team than Portsmouth in England - and that includes the national eleven - I have yet to see it in action" says John Thompson in one of today's Sunday papers.
