February 21-28: Pompey Reach The Cup Semi-Finals by beating Derby in front of yet another record crowd

Friday 25:  Pompey's credentials for the much-talked-about league and cup double will come under close scrutiny when they face Derby County at Fratton Park tomorrow in their FA Cup sixth-round tie. 

Pompey officials are expecting the Fratton Park attendance record to be broken for the second time in 15 days when Derby County visit tomorrow. Additional crowd-packing stewards have been engaged and it is possible that the gate will exceed 50,000. 

Peter Harris has recovered from his injury and will return to the side to face Derby County tomorrow. Jack Froggatt reverts to his normal outside-left position. Cliff Parker makes way.

The full Pompey side to face Derby County in the sixth round of the cup tomorrow will be: Butler, Yeuell, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Barlow, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt.

Pompey Reserves, who are without a competitive fixture tomorrow, will play at friendly at Walton & Hersham of the Corinthian League. 

Portsmouth "A" play their second fixture on their new ground at Wych Lane, Bridgemary tomorrow. They face Cowes Reserves in Division Two of the Hampshire League. 

The Fratton Park turnstiles will open at 11.30am tomorrow. Kick-off is at 3pm. The Portsmouth Fire Brigade Band will entertain supporters before the match and at half-time. 

Saturday 26:  Queues have already formed at the Fratton Park turnstiles ahead of this afternoon's big cup-tie against Derby County. A record crowd is expected to include up to 5,000 Derby supporters, some of whom are pictured here. 

The Fratton Park turnstiles have now been closed behind a ground-bulging crowd of more than 50,000 - and there are still 80 minutes until kick-off in Pompey's FA Cup sixth-round tie against Derby County. 

The thousands of unlucky supporters locked out of Fratton Park this afternoon will be able to follow Pompey's progress by commentary relayed to them through loudspeakers.

The atmosphere at Fratton Park is electric as kick-off approaches in the big FA Cup match. We'll bring you all the important details of the game straight after the final whistle. (There will be extra time if the scores are level at 90 minutes)

Pompey are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup! They took a huge step towards achieving their dream of a league and cup double by beating Derby County 2-1 in their cup quarter-final match before a record crowd of 51,385 at Fratton Park this afternoon.

Derby had the better of the first-half and took the lead after 41 minutes when Stamps headed in Harrison’s corner.

Pompey took just three minutes to equalize. Dickinson’s pass found Froggatt, and the winger’s cross was inch-perfect for Ike Clarke to head past Townsend. 

Pompey took charge in the second-half but it remained all-square until three minutes from time. Clarke brought down Froggatt’s pass before turning and placing a shot past Townsend. Match Summary: Portsmouth 2, Derby County 1

A tremendous roar greeted the final whistle, and fans ran on to the pitch to congratulate Reg Flewin and his men.

Pompey Reserves won 4-2 at Walton & Hersham in a friendly match this afternoon. Pompey "A" beat Cowes Reserves 2-0 in Hampshire League Division Two.

Sunday 27:  Yesterday's special edition of the Evening News captured all the excitement of Fratton Park as the huge crowd counted down the minutes to kick-off in the big Pompey v Derby County cup-tie.

Pompey secretary Mr Dan Clarke is urging supporters to await an official announcement about FA Cup-semi final arrangement before sending in applications for tickets. The semi-final draw will take place tomorrow lunchtime.

Pompey's Division One fixture against title-rivals Newcastle United, scheduled for yesterday but postponed because of the Blues' involvement in the FA Cup, will now be played on Wednesday 6th April at 6.15pm.

Monday 28:  Pompey supporters displayed a Viscount Montgomery banner at the cup tie against Derby County on Saturday.

Pompey manager Mr Bob Jackson (2nd from left) and his players are currently at the Stanhope Road offices of The Evening News awaiting news of the FA Cup semi-final draw to appear on the telegraph machine. 

The clubs joining Pompey in the draw for the semi-finals of the FA Cup are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester United and Leicester City. The draw will be made in a few minutes time. 

Pompey have been paired with Leicester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. In the other match, Wolves will play Manchester United. Venues for the matches will be announced later to-day. Both matches will be played on 26 March at 3pm

The Football Association have decided that Pompey's FA Cup semi-final tie against Leicester City will be played at Highbury. If a replay is necessary it will take place at Villa Park, Birmingham. 

The other semi-final tie between Wolves and Manchester United will be played at Hillsborough, home of Sheffield Wednesday. Any replay will be at Goodison Park, Everton.
