August 22-28: Two Home Games End With A First Loss At Home In 33 Games

Tuesday 23:  Pompey are certain of a tremendous welcome from a big crowd when they make their first appearance of the season at Fratton Park tomorrow evening (6pm). The Blues will be unchanged from the side that won so handsomely at Newcastle on Saturday.

The Pompey team to face Manchester City tomorrow will therefore be: Butler, Yeuell, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt.

Tomorrow Pompey will be looking to extend their 20-month unbeaten home record to 32 matches. No visiting side has left Fratton Park with both points since Manchester United on 27 December 1947.

Pompey Secretary Mr Dan Clarke wishes to remind new season ticket holders with seats in Block D that they should enter the South Stand via the turnstiles at the Apsley Road end.

Wednesday 24:  Pompey are unchanged and will line up as per programme for this evening's clash with Manchester City. The visitors are without Swift. He is replaced in goal by the youngster, Powell. Pompey's wartime star Andy Black is at inside-left for City.

Many supporters have heeded the advice to arrive early for tonight's big match at Fratton Park. With half an hour to kick off the new areas of terracing look well populated, but queues are forming at many of the turnstiles.

It's ended all-square at Fratton Park.

Final Score: Portsmouth 1 - 1 Manchester City

Reid (pen)

Attendance: 43,965

Pompey frustrated a Fratton crowd of 43,965 by squandering a host of chances in their 1-1 draw with Manchester City tonight. Duggie Reid put the Blues ahead from the penalty spot after 37 minutes, but Munroe equalised for City just moments later.

Match Summary: Portsmouth 1, Manchester City 1

Thursday 25:  Pompey's 32-match unbeaten home run counted for little as far as some of last night's crowd were concerned. There were some jeers for the League Champions after the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

19-year old goalkeeper Ronnie Powell, making his league debut for Manchester City in the absence of Frank Swift, stole the headlines at Fratton Park last night. He made several fine saves to earn the visitors a point.

Cliff Parker, Pompey's veteran outside-left, is to have an X-ray to ascertain the cause of internal discomfort he has suffered since a heavy challenge cut short his appearance for the Reserves against Plymouth Argyle Reserves last Saturday.

Scotland selectors were among the crowd at Fratton Park last night. They are believed to have been checking on Pompey's right-half Jimmy Scoular.

Friday 26:  The Lord Mayor (and Pompey director) Alderman John Privett called on the Commander-in-Chief, Home Fleet, Admiral Sir Rhoderick McGrigor aboard HMS Implacable this morning.

Pompey will be facing their "bogey team" when Blackpool arrive at Fratton Park tomorow afternoon. The Blues have taken just a single point from the Seasiders in their six meetings since the war.

The Pompey team to face Blackpool at Fratton Park tomorrow will be unchanged from the side that played in the first two matches of the season: Butler, Yeuell, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt.

Pompey Tie Causes Jealousy - a letter in tonight's Evening News.

Neither Pompey Reserves nor the "A" team have a league fixture tomorrow, so two friendlies have been arranged. One is at Petersfield in aid of the National Playing Fields Association.  The other is against Camper and Nicholson at Bridgeway.

Saturday 27:  Fratton Park looks to be close to capacity 15 minutes before kick-off in Pompey's match against Blackpool. Can the Blues extend their unbeaten home run to 33 matches?

The final whistle has sounded at Fratton Park and Pompey have lost at home for the first time in 33 matches.

Result: Pompey 2 - 3 Blackpool

Pompey scorers: Clarke, Phillips

Attendance: 47,260

Blackpool twice came from behind to wreck Pompey's long, unbeaten home record this afternoon. It was a pulsating spectacle for the crowd of 47,260, but there will be questions asked about some key refereeing decisions which cost Pompey the points.

Ike Clarke tapped Pompey ahead after 12 minutes, but McIntosh equalised just before the break. Phillips restored Pompey's lead on 51 minutes, but Mortenson struck twice to secure both points for the Seasiders.

Pompey were denied a two-goal lead in the first half. Reid was brought down outside the penalty area. The ball fell to Harris who lashed it past Farm, but the referee disallowed the goal and brought play back for a free kick to Pompey.

Peter Harris had another goal disallowed in the second half when the ball looked to almost everybody but the referee to have crossed the goal line.

Match Summary: Portsmouth 2, Blackpool 3
