5 Peter Harris – Family life
Peter was born in Eastney on 19 December 1925 and started life at 33 Bransbury Road – how about a Blue Plaque?
He is pictured here with Mum and Dad showing off his England Cap while Mum carries on knitting,
His career started with him still at home and he would travel to matches from Bransbury Park by Trolley bus and then walk down Frogmore Road to the ground with fans before being shown into the dressing room.
He married London girl Sylvia in February 1953 and moved to a property in North End. Sylvia would play a big part in Peter’s life after his retirement helping him run the Ex Championship side and other charitable projects. After Peter’s death she put her weight behind the fans efforts to buy the club from Administration.
Curiously Peter and Sylvia married on the same day in South East London as Charlton Star Eddie Firmani as our clipping shows.
