September 19-25: Pompey Beat The Danes And Then Draw With Bolton

Monday 19:  Pompey inside-forward Lindy Delapenha has been offered a two-year contract to play County Championship cricket for Worcestershire. The likeable Jamaican, who is an attractive, forceful batsman is thinking things over.

Tuesday 20:  Pompey take on the Danish International XI at Fratton Park tomorrow. With the evenings now drawing in the kick-off has been brought forward to 5.40pm. 

The Danish International XI arrived at Northolt Airport earlier today. They were met by Pompey director Mr Harry Wain and secretary Mr Dan Clarke.

Tonight the Danish International XI are watching "Annie Get Your Gun" at the Colliseum Theatre in London. Tomorrow morning they travel to Portsmouth where they will be staying in the Beach Hotel. 

Wednesday 21:  Mr J Chinneck was last night unanimously elected by his fellow directors to succeed Mr R Vernon Stokes as Chairman of the Portsmouth Football Club. The new Vice-Chairman is Alderman J Privett, the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth. 

The first official engagement for Pompey's new Chairman Mr J Chinneck was to travel to Liphook this morning to meet the Danish International team which is en route to Fratton Park for the friendly match against Pompey tonight.

Pompey will be without Jimmy Dickinson and Peter Harris for tonight's friendly against the Danish International XI. Both players are on international duty. They will be replaced by Bill Thompson and Jimmy Dawson.

The full Pompey side to face the Danish International XI at Fratton Park tonight (5.40pm) is: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Thompson, Dawson, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt.

There has been some wonderful entertainment in this evening's friendly match at Fratton Park.

Thursday 22:  The Danish International team, beaten 6-2 by Pompey last night, went on a tour of HMS Victory this morning before laying a wreath at the cenotaph in Guildhall Square. They are currently being entertained to lunch in the Portsmouth Guildhall. 

The City Plate and Pompey's League Championship trophy were on display as the Lord Mayor, Alderman John Privett, entertained the players and officials of the Danish football team to lunch at the Guildhall earlier today.

Friday 23:  Pompey are at home to Bolton Wanderers in the First Division tomorrow (3pm). The Trotters have never won a match at Fratton Park. 

Jimmy Dickinson (right) and Peter Harris (centre), seen here during an England training session earlier this week, have now returned from international duty. Pompey will therefore be at full strength for their clash with Bolton Wanderers tomorrow. 

The full Pompey side to face Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park tomorrow will be: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt. 

Pompey Reserves, who travel to Tottenham Reserves tomorrow, will be strengthened by the return from injury of Cliff Parker and Lindy Delapenha. Team: Humpston, Yeuell, Rookes, Macdonald, Thompson, Spence, Dawson, Delapenha, Asher, Pickett, Parker. 

Pompey "A" have an intriguing-looking Hampshire League fixture against Southampton "A" at Bridgemary tomorrow. Team: Aslett, Gunter, Turner, Cairney, Duggins, Andrews, Gordon, Pearson, Field, Henderson, Wood.

Pompey "B" have a fixture with Airspeed FC tomorrow and will be represented by: Meade, Voisey, Mansell,  Hayzell, Rutter, Moody, King, Dolton, Davis, Wilson, Newman.

Saturday 24:  There is a late change to the Pompey side to face Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park this afternoon. Bill Hindmarsh has a slight injury and his place at right-back will be taken by Jasper Yeuell. Kick off is at 3pm.

The final whistle has sounded at Fratton Park and it has ended all-square between Pompey and Bolton Wanderers.

Result: Pompey 1 - 1 Bolton Wanderers Pompey scorer: Ike Clarke Attendance: 35,765

There were plenty of opportunities for Pompey to have finished off Bolton in the second half but chance after chance was squandered, much to the disappointment of the crowd of 35,765. 

A 19th minute goal from Ike Clarke wasn't enough to bring Pompey both points against Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park this afternoon. The centre-forward's predatory strike was cancelled out by a Lofthouse equaliser six minutes later.  

Pompey will be concerned about injuries to Harry Ferrier, who appeared to suffer a deep gash to his head, and Duggie Reid, who was laid out by a kick to the stomach late in the game.

There was an avalanche of goals at White Hart Lane this afternoon as Tottenham Hotspur Reserves beat Pompey Reserves 7-4.

Sunday 25:  From last night's Football Mail: Ranger's report on Pompey's 1-1 draw with Bolton. The result leaves the Blues seventh in Division One with 10 points from nine matches. League leaders Wolves, who visit Fratton Park next week, are on 17 points. 

Pompey will face Arsenal at The Goldstone Ground, Hove, on Wednesday (28th) in a testimonial match for the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Mr Charlie Webb. Kick off will be at 5pm.
