Tuesday 14: Portsmouth will complete the last of their early-season mid-week fixtures when they take on Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park tomorrow night (6pm). The Pompey parted headed north this morning, having enjoyed foam baths in Brighton yesterday.
The Pompey team to face Middlesbrough tomorrow will be unchanged from that which beat Charlton so convincingly on Saturday. Portsmouth: Butler, Rookes, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Barlow, Reid, Phillips, Froggatt.
Pompey are making Redcar their base for the remainder of the week. On Saturday they move on to meet Manchester City at Maine Road. Bill Hindmarsh and Ike Clarke have travelled with the party as insurance against injury or illness.
Portsmouth Reserves play Cardiff City Reserves at Fratton Park tomorrow night. With the evenings drawing in kick-off has been brought forward from the advertised time of 6pm to 5.45pm.

Wednesday 15: Portsmouth have announced that the Eire v Holland match, hosted at Fratton Park as part of this summer’s Olympic Games football tournament, brought in a profit of £1130/13s/6d after match expenses were deducted. The attendance was 13,637.

Pompey and Middlesbrough shared the points with a 1-1 draw at Ayresome Park tonight. Bert Barlow struck for Portsmouth on 53 minutes to cancel out Fenton’s sixth minute opener. The result extends Pompey’s unbeaten start to eight matches.
This was a hard-fought match which neither side deserved to lose. Portsmouth went behind when a cross from the left skimmed the crossbar. The danger seemed to be over but the ball dropped to Fenton who made no mistake in driving it home.
Pompey rallied well. A good chance fell to Phillips but he fired high. Harris should have done better with one weak effort, and Froggatt saw his shot well saved after a jinking run.
Pompey’s equaliser came when Barlow found himself free on the angle of the penalty area. He turned and shot but his effort seemed to lack power. However it eluded the arms of the diving ‘keeper and finished up in the far corner of the net.
Portsmouth were largely untroubled after the equaliser, with Flewin and Dickinson in particular playing splendidly. The Blues will next be in action on Saturday, when they face Manchester City at Maine Road.

Friday 17: Pompey’s players and officials have been based at a hotel in Redcar since Tuesday. After Wednesday’s hard-fought draw at Middlesbrough they were pleased to spend yesterday enjoying some recreation as guests of the Butlins Holiday Camp, Filey (left).
Pompey’s players finally got the chance of a day off yesterday, which was spent at Butlin’s Holiday Camp in Filey. L-R: Harry Ferrier, Duggie Reid, Reg Flewin, and Jimmy Scoular (higher) were some of the others who enjoyed a day as the guests of Butlin’s at Filey yesterday.
Mr John Privett, a member of the Pompey Board of Directors, has been elected an Alderman and Honorary Freeman of the City of Portsmouth. Alderman Privett (39) is the youngest holder of this office.
Portsmouth manager Mr R Jackson has once again named an unchanged team for tomorrow’s visit to Manchester City (3pm). Froggatt was a doubt but he has made a full recovery from the heavy knock he took at Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

Pompey recovered from the shock of conceding a goal in the first minute to storm back and earn an excellent point from a 1-1 draw at Manchester City this afternoon. Duggie Reid scored the goal that extended the unbeaten run to nine matches.
It looked like being a difficult afternoon for Portsmouth when McMorran headed City in front after Oakes hit the crossbar, but Pompey were soon pressing for an equaliser in a lively first-half.
The breakthrough came in the 65th minute. Swift punched at a teasing Froggatt corner. The ball dropped to Harris who saw his shot hacked off the line. As the ball bounced around it was Reid who bundled it in from close range.
Reid flashed another effort just wide, and Barlow rattled the crossbar. City themselves finished strongly but Pompey, playing in their change strip of red shirt and black knickers, held firm in front of a crowd of 51,590.
Portsmouth remain top of the first division with 15 points, Derby County are second on 13 points, Birmingham City, Sunderland and Newcastle are on 12 points, and Charlton are on 11. All clubs have played nine matches.

Right-half Gerry Bowler scored a hat-trick as Portsmouth Reserves beat Coventry City Reserves 6-0 before a crowd of more than 8,000 at Fratton Park this afternoon. Delapenha, Parker and Asher scored the other Pompey goals.
