January 17-23: Chimes Ring Out Around Charlton's Valley As Pompey Top The League
Monday 17: Portsmouth Secretary Mr Dan Clarke has said the club have been overloaded with postal applications for wing stand seats for the forthcoming cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park. No further applications will be accepted.

Saturday 22: Jimmy Lawler, Pompey's reserve inside-left, was transferred to Southend United last night. The 26-year-old arrived at Pompey from Glentoran in October 1947. He is expected to turn out for Southend in their match against Port Vale this afternoon.

A crowd of 61,475 saw Pompey record a thoroughly deserved 1-0 win against Charlton Athletic at The Valley this afternoon. Ike Clarke scored the goal that extends Pompey's lead at the top of the First Division to three points.
