December 1-5: A Point At Huddersfield After A Good Dinner At The Savoy

Wednesday 1:  Portsmouth's hectic weekend of Golden Jubilee celebrations ended on Monday night with a banquet for 450 guests at the Savoy Hotel in Southsea.

Speaking on behalf of the players, Pompey captain Reg Flewin told guests at the banquet "This is the end of the finest week in the history of the club."

Cmdr A F Bone, RNR, a director of Arsenal FC, proposed a toast to Portsmouth Football Club, saying that wherever the White Ensign was flown there was always the enquiry on football Saturdays "How did Pompey get on?”

Pompey Chairman Mr R V Stokes said he'd had wonderful support from his colleagues on the board, and paid special tribute to the Vice-Chairman Mr Jim Chinneck who, while keeping himself in the background, was doing so much for the club.

Mr Stokes also spoke of the great vefforts by Pompey Secretary Mr Dan Clarke and his staff to make the Golden Jubilee celebrations such a success.

Director Mr S Leverett proposed a toast to the club's former players, "Oliver Cromwell's team - knocked about a bit but still alive!" Jimmy Guthrie, responding, said "a football club is like a school. Its old boys never forget it.”

Friday 3: Pompey have the chance to return to the top of the first division when they take on lowly Huddersfield Town at Leeds Road tomorrow (2.30pm). Pompey: Butler, Rookes, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Barlow, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt

Portsmouth Reserves will face Millwall Reserves at Fratton Park tomorrow (2.30pm). Pompey: Humpston, Yeuell, Drummond, Neave, Bowler, Thompson, Brown, Delapenha, Reid, Lawler, Evans.

The Pompey Reserves Combination League fixture against Millwall tomorrow will be preceded by the English Schools Trophy 3rd round tie, Portsmouth Schools v Reading Schools.

Pompey "A" team's Hampshire League match against Portsmouth Civil Service tomorrow will now be played at the Royal Navy's ground at Pitt Street (2.30pm).

Saturday 4:  Pompey failed to reach the highs of last week's performance against Arsenal and were slightly fortunate to come away from this afternoon's match at Huddersfield with a 0-0 draw.

It was an uncomfortable first half for Pompey. Their defenders were hard pressed to cope with a lively Huddersfield side, and Butler had to pull off two fine saves to deny Doherty. At the other end of the pitch Pompey's front line hardly got going.

Pompey did rather better in the second half and it became a more balanced contest. The Blues almost stole an undeserved win just two minutes from time but Len Phillips saw his fierce drive brilliantly saved by Mills.

Pompey will not be unhappy with an away point, but Derby County's big win against Charlton this afternoon means the Blues now sit three points behind the Rams at the top of the first division table.

Match Summary: Huddersfield 0, Portsmouth 0

Portsmouth Reserves cruised to a 6-2 win against Millwall Reserves at Fratton Park this afternoon. Duggie Reid scored a hat-trick, and there were also goals for Brown and Delapenha. An own goal completed the scoring for Pompey.

Match Summary: Portsmouth Reserves 6, Millwall Reserves 2

Portsmouth "A" beat Portsmouth Civil Service 3-0 in their Hampshire League fixture at Pitt Street this afternoon. Elder, Asher and Gordon got the goals.
