Track 1 [00:00:00] [xx xx 20xx] Went to first game on boxing day 1937, can’t recall the team we played [00:01:02] Uncle lived in Goldsmith Ave, took him from 7 and sat on boilermakers hump, rode his bike there from house, far more bikes then and ok for children [00:03:42] Remembers Frogmore Road when we was a kid in the 30’s as similar to today, walking down FR remembers the several programme sellers, everyone had to buy one [00:04:57] Memories of going through the turnstile and the good atmosphere especially in the cup games which were more important then [00:06:09] Talked of the official at the game with a megaphone packing all the crowd into the ground for an hour before the game started - everyone wore caps then [00:07:02] Team used to be the same every week if possible, no changes like now [00:07:50] Memories of FA Cup 1939, listened on the radio from home, all the family, then the Guildhall Square when the players bought the cup back, lots of service people around in uniform [00:08:50] Memories of his career and the war, evacuation to Salisbury, carpenter and diner in Portsmouth after that, ended as chief lecturer at Highbury in Carpentry and Joinery [00:13:05] Memories of the FA Cup 1939 and the good side [00:14:20] Ends |
