Champions of England: Oral Histories

In 2019 the Pompey History Society secured Heritage Lottery Funding to capture memories of when Portsmouth FC were Champions of England in 1949 and 1950. Led by Samantha Middleton  MA, BA (Hons) a team of volunteers conducted interviews with 20 individuals. In addition, archive audio and video from a number of players who played in the championship years has also been unearthed and curated for the project. This is the story of how Pompey were the best team in the country: in the words of the people who were there at the time.
