Season Ticket badge 2026/27

When Fratton Park’s season ticket holders received their package this month they may have been surprised when the badge fell out of the envelope.

This badge was rather different than in previous seasons and depicts the old sign that hung outside the Pompey pub from the early 1970s, as it was known, until it closed its doors in 1990.

The sign was designed in the early 1970s and can now be found in the History Society’s archive gathering dust.  The design depicts Pompey’s much loved utility player Brian Lewis who had two spells at the clubs between 1963-67 and 1974-75.  This has been upheld by Brian’s son (Duncan named after Duncan Edwards) on Facebook in a recent post and is not as some fans believe to be Alby McCann.   Brian was described in his Independent obituary as ‘the effervescent utility man with the distinctive bow- legged gait’. Brian is kitted out in a blue shirt with white shorts and blue socks with white, blue and red top.  Of course when Brian passed away in 1998 folklore tells us he was buried wearing his Pompey shirt.  There is a picture of Brian in the pose somewhere in existence which I have managed to find.

The sign was believed lost especially following the ‘clear out’ ordered by Sacha Gaydamak when he bought the club but then luck enabled its rediscovery.  Following the spell of administration in 2010 the club reduced the footprint of the offices etc.  Then Commercial Director Lucius Peart uncovered the sign deep in the vaults of the old pub. He had discovered part of the heritage which many believed was lost.

There are some fans who remember the sign with the early seventies twin stripe kit but we are doing more research on that subject.

So the sign will be seen again at some stage in a future display possibly in the City Museum or even hanging in the Fan Zone behind the Fratton End.
