Evening with Paul Wood

Wood

Paul Wood, proclaimed as a born ‘star’ by Pompey manager Alan Ball in 1985 and who had two spells at Fratton Park, will be the subject of the next ‘Evening With’ series by the Pompey History Society later this month.

The event is on Wednesday February 25 (7pm) in the Legends Lounge at Fratton Park, where Wood will be in conversation with Johnny Moore, as well as opening the evening up with a Q&A session.

So far this season the society has already hosted evenings with football stadium historian Simon Inglis and former Pompey mascot and assistant kit-man Barry Harris.

Mick Comben, executive Chair of the society said: “We are delighted to have persuaded Paul to come and talk about his career at Pompey. He spans two fascinating periods of the club’s history.

“First, he was an insider on that amazing period when Bally was manager of the so-called Gremlins team, which eventually won promotion to Division One in 1987.

“Then, after a few seasons away at Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth, he was brought back to Pompey by Jim Smith in 1994 and he played under both him and Terry Fenwick.”
