Bucket collection exceeds £1,000

More than £1,000 was raised by the Pompey History Society charity's physical and virtual bucket collection at the Millwall game.

The money will go towards the society's Gerry Spraggs Fund, which aims to raise £25,000 by the end of 2025 to buy Peter Harris's two championship medals from 1949 & 1950 to preserve them for future generations and put on public display.

Chair of Trustees Colin Farmery, who is leading on the project, said: "We are thrilled to have raised so much and I would like to thank the fans who gave so generously and also to our team of volunteers who gave up their time in the cold to shake a bucket.

"More than £600 was raised in cash and around £400 in online donations, which are still coming in. The fund now stands at almost £6,000 with a little over a year to go, but there will be plenty more opportunities to support the fund in the coming months.

"On December 19, 2025 it will be 100 years since Peter was born, a Portsmouth boy who played for England and won two championship medals with his home town club. Hopefully in early 2026 we can tell his story to the public with these precious medals as the centrepiece."
