Match Summary | Carlisle made their first ever visit to Fratton Park and despite falling behind on two minutes to a Dennis Edwards strike frustrated the crowd until Johnny Gordon moved further forward and Brian Lewis, Ray Hiron and Albie McCann all scored in a seventeen minute second half spell. Leicestershire cricketer Chris Balderstone netted for United late on. Stan Harland, the visitors left half, would later captain Swindon to win the League Cup and coach Pompey under Frank Burrows. Most famous character on the pitch was Jack Taylor who nine years later would referee the World Cup Final! |
