Match Summary | A crowd of 18,000 crammed into Fratton Park on a wet and windy evening to watch their side win the Division Three South Championship and n=hence promotion to Division Two after just four years in the Football League. The game was a close encounter in the first half but thanks to two goals from Centre Half Harry Foxall, his first since signing from Merthyr Town, they lead 3-1 at the break. the final goal came when Billy Haines, who would finish as the Division's top scorer with 28, broke away and was fouled in the box. Skipper Jimmy Martin scored from the spot. At the final whistle the crowd poured onto the pitch to congratulate their team and speeches were made from the club house. |
