Match Summary | The young Wolves team led by Stan Cullis arrive at Wembley as the hottest favourites for years and second in the league. Pompey meanwhile have struggled all season but by the time Cliff Parker cuts in from the left and kicks the ball from goalie Scott's hand in the 46th minute they are 3-0 up!! Some would call it luck due to manager Jack Tinn's lucky spats and Fred Worrall's lucky sixpence but Wolves were never in it even after Dorsett pulled one back, Worrall crossed for Parker to make it four! Jimmy Guthrie led his men up the famous steps to collect Pompey's first major trophy from King George VI, as the chimes rang out and Pompey would hold it for seven years. |
