Match Summary | Pompey only eight years after gaining their Football League status make their first ever visit to Highbury pre the Marble Halls and come away with the two points thanks to late goals from Weddle and Smith. The Southern Railway laid on three extra trains such was the interest in the game despite being on a midweek afternoon. The game started badly with McIlwaine and Weddle forced off through injury both continued with heads bandaged after treatment in the dressing room and the nine men had held on bravely. The game ended with a fine headed goal from Weddle from a Cook cross and a penalty after Weddle had been fouled by Parker. Smith despatched the spot kick with the last kick of the game. |
