Pompey included Edwards and Beale, two of RAOC Hilsea's Army Cup winning team, but Chelsea controlled much of the game. Portsmouth were not playing the sort of football which had enabled them to remain unbeaten since January 21, and, at times, they looked a ragged set, although Chelsea were by no means a good side.
