From an Admiralty deep sea diving service background, Sydney Leverett's connections with Pompey went back almost to its inception. It appears he spent many years scouting for players and undertook work arranging their signing before this was officially recognised with a seat on the board in 1912. He went on to chair it between 18 September 1940 and 10 October 1945 and died while still in situ in the summer of 1959.
