Biography Peter had served a carpentry apprenticeship before making the move to professional football. He made his debut on 21 October 1944 in a League South encounter at Watford and went on to be a virtual ever present in the remaining two war-time seasons. Come season 1947/48 Peter made the outside right position his own for the next eleven seasons during which he missed just four matches in the championship seasons and scored 33 goals. Peter represented the Football League on five occassions but made just two international appearances for England, the first against Ireland at Everton in November 1949 and the second when England were humbled 7-1 in Budapest in May 1954. Of slight build, Peter possessed electrifying pace and superb ball control. He remains the club's all time goalscorer and would have added to his appearance total but for a serious illness forcing his retirement in 1960.
