April 26-30: Pompey Beat Huddersfield And Captain Reg Gets The Trophy From Monty At Fratton Park

Monday 25:  Pompey’s anticipated quiet return to Fratton Park in the early hours of Sunday morning ended with police being deployed to maintain order in Frogmore Road where hundreds of supporters had gathered to congratulate the new Football League Champions.

Tuesday 26:  Pompey will be parading the Football League Championship trophy through the streets of the city on Saturday evening. Plans for the procession, and for a civic reception, are currently being drawn up by club and council officials.

Thursday 28:  Liverpool, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town were among the first of Pompey's fellow First Division clubs to send telegrams of congratulation to Fratton Park this week. Sheffield Wed of Division Two were also quick to offer their best wishes.

A new flag will be flying at Fratton Park on Saturday. Work is already in hand on the flag which will reflect Pompey's status as League Champions. It will be flown at the western end of the main stand. 

Jimmy Dickinson may have to sit out Pompey's match against Huddersfield Town on Saturday. He split his head open at Birmingham on Easter Monday, and re-opened the wound at Bolton, where he ignored medical advice to come off.

Outside-right Peter Harris will be missing when Pompey play their re-arranged league game against Arsenal at Highbury next Wednesday. He has been selected to play for an FA XI against an FA of Ireland side in Dublin.

The Football League have agreed to break with tradition by presenting the Championship trophy to Pompey at Fratton Park on Saturday. Normally the ceremony is performed at the Annual General Meeting of the League. 

Pompey's "victory parade" through the city will commence from Frogmore Road at 7pm on Saturday. The League Champions will pass along Goldsmith Avenue, Fratton Road, Kingston Road, Kingston Crescent and Commercial Road to the Guildhall steps 

Pompey's victory parade on Saturday will be led through the streets by the Portsmouth City Fire Brigade Band. Meanwhile, the Band of HM Royal Marines will entertain the crowds waiting in Guildhall Square.

After a short ceremony and presentation to the crowds at the Guildhall the procession will continue down The Terraces, Western Parade and Clarence Parade to the Beach Hotel for a private function to mark the winning of the Championship

Jimmy Elder scored twice to give Pompey Reserves a 2-0 win against Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic Reserves at Dean Court this evening.

Football Association and Football League regulations restrict the total amount Pompey can distribute among among their players as "talent money" for winning the League to £500.

Saturday 30:  The Fratton Park crowd will welcome home the new League Champions this afternoon when Pompey face Huddersfield Town in their last home match of this magnificent season. After the match Pompey will be presented with the Championship Trophy. 

Pompey make one change from the side that made history at Bolton last week. Jimmy Dickinson, who suffered that nasty head injury, will not be risked. Bill Thompson takes his place at left-half. 

The full Pompey side to face Huddersfield this afternoon is: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Thompson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt. 

It's a busy day for the Portsmouth Fire Brigade Band. After entertaining the crowd before Pompey's meeting with Huddersfield, and again at half time, they will be leading tonight's procession of the League Champions through the streets of the city.

Pompey's tour of the city will start at 7pm from Fratton Park. The route will include Goldsmith Avenue, Fratton Road, Kingston Road, Kingston Cescent, Commercial Road to the Guildhall Square, where the Band of HM Royal Marines will be playing 

The Pompey parade will continue down Commercial Road (South), The Terraces, Western Parade, Clarence Parade to the Beach Hotel. 

Pompey officials and supporters gathered at Fratton Park this morning for the unveiling of the club's new Championship pennant, which is to be flown from a recently-installed flag pole at the western end of the south stand. 

Pompey scored a goal in each half to beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Fratton Park this afternoon. Duggie Reid (pen) and Ike Clarke were on target for the League Champions, who completed their home fixtures without a single defeat in league or cup. 

The crowd packed into the ground early, and were in party mood in the build up to kick-off. Groups of supporters detached themselves from the terraces to parade around the perimeter of the pitch carrying all kinds of flags, banners and balloons

Fratton Park shook to its foundations when the Fire Brigade Band struck up the Pompey Chimes and the entire crowd seemed to join in.

There was a huge cheer when Pompey's president, Field-Marshal Montgomery took his place in the directors' box alongside chairman Mr Vernon Stokes. 

The atmosphere reached fever pitch when Pompey's inspirational captain, Reg Flewin, led his team out of the tunnel. 

The visitors had their full share of possession during the first half, with Pompey showing only flashes of the football that had swept them to the pinnacle of English football.

 It was a different story after the break, with Phillips, Harris and Froggatt all going close for Pompey. With seven minutes left Reid set up Ike Clarke, who thumped the ball into the roof of the net to put the Blues two-up.

When the final whistle sounded thousands of supporters spilled onto the pitch and massed in front of the directors' box to await the presentation of the Championship Trophy.
