Jimmy Dickinson - Adapt your game

Adapt your Game by Jimmy Dickinson

The Pompey History Society is always seeking out obscure articles and stories that help increase the knowledge of our great club.

Recently a member of the Steering Committee, Chris Gibbs, uncovered an article written by Jimmy Dickinson for the ‘Boy’s Book of Soccer’ published in the mid-1950s.

The article is entitled ‘Adapt your game’ and Jim talks about growing up in the game and how he needed to adapt to the different levels he played at from schoolboy to young professional, international and continental football; on different types of pitches, weather conditions etc.  It is a story that older fans will connect with immediately but younger fans will find the terminology a strange foreign language.   That, of course, is history and what the 125th Anniversary commemorations are all about.

Read the article as it is a tremendous insight into the man who we will always remember as Gentleman Jim.
