Match Summary | Town arrive top of the table but Pompey are on a mission to destroy the promotion chances of most of the sides in contention. !965/66 was not a season to remember for Pompey fans but two players stood out 22 year old keeper John Milkins and wing half/inside forward Brian Lewis. Here Lewis ran the show to such an effect that at one stage he mimics to sit on the ball to rile his opponents. Inside right Alan McGilliver is so exasperated he lashes out at Lewi and his sent packing by the referee. The next two home games see Pompey beat Coventry and Wolves both 2-0 and all three miss out on promotion; the team to benefit from this run and win a place at the top table - Southampton!! |
