Match Summary | A day all those there will remember - Pompey were top and Blackpool second in the race for promotion to the top league. A crowd of over 35,000 packed Fratton to the rafters and the game did not disappoint as the two sides gave their all in the December gloom. Pompey got the start they wanted when Portwood headed in a Ley cross but just on half time Skirton dived to head home an Armfield centre. The second half saw the two sides trade punches and Pompey lost Jennings with a broken leg, but the crowd roared the Blues home and Substitute Travers and Pointer scored in the last five minutes. At the final whistle the crowd spilled onto the pitch in celebration. The crowd was the biggest since 1959 and has not been beaten for a league game since. |
