Match Summary |
The Hull marathon reaches part three. After a 1-1 draw at Boothferry Park and a dramatic 2-2 game at Fratton the saga moves on to Highfield Road Coventry with the prize for the winner a plum draw at Tottenham's White Hart Lane. Pompey had visited Coventry only five weeks earlier and suffered a 5-1 thrashing and after Hull started well all looked bleak but Pompey fought their way into the game and led at the interval thanks to an Albert McCann penalty. The Tigers levelled soon after the break but Pompey took control again and a McCann special and a Dennis Edwards header sent the Blue hordes back down the A 34 in jubilant mood. Note the Pirate programme attached commonplace at big games in the 60s and 70s. |
