Match Summary | Champion scorer Billy Haines is missing but Alf Strange comes in and scores a couple as Pompey continue their push for promotion. Strange opened the scoring before the break but in the second half problems beset the luckless Hornets. First keeper Williams injured his hand attempting to prevent Beedie's effort putting Pompey two up and Toone had to take over in goal. Then after Strange added the third Carter injured a leg which made him a passenger and Austiss was forced off with a knee injury meaning Williams had to come back on and play with his hand bandaged on the right wing. Pompey only managed one more goal through Mackie to rub salt into the wounds of poor Watford. |
