Biography Cliff's career in Pompey's colours lasted almost 20 seasons either side of World War 2. An ever present in the run-up to hostilities, he scored two goals in the 1939 FA Cup Final - also appearing in the 1941/42 War Cup Final - and picked up where he left off after they ended having been a regular throughout the war period. Cliff only played a bit part in the championship seasons, making 8 appearances in total, but his place in Pompey folklore was by then already assured. Following retirement from playing, Cliff was firstly a scout and then assistant trainer before finally severing his ties with the club in 1957.
