Biography Widely regarded as one of the finest players ever to represent the club, 'Jolly' Jack came from a footballing family and was equally adept at outside left or centre half in which positions he played for England. Jack signed straight from the services (RAF), making his League South debut away at Southampton on 15 September 1945, scoring a goal. His official debut would come in the two legged FAC tie later in the season before he established himself as a fixture in the side in the first post-war season. Jack was regular for the next seven seasons, playing in all but two of the championship winning games, scoring 29 times, mainly on the wing. International recognition came first in November 1949, Jack scoring on his debut followed by Football League representative honours. A loss of form prompted the sale of Jack to Leicester City in March 1954 to whom he rendered fine service. He later managed Kettering Town before retiring from the game.
