Biography | Duggie served Pompey for over 30 years. Known for his thunderbolt shot, he scored 33 league goals in 56 appearances during the title seasons, having debuted in a Pompey shirt in a League South encounter at home against West Bromwich Albion on 9 March 1946, scoring one goal. Duggie successfully extended his first team career by converting to centre half in 1953 before departing for Tonbridge as player manager in 1956. A year later he became groundsman at the Tamworth Road training ground before taking on the role at Fratton Park in 1959. He lovingly tended the pitch for almost 20 years before finally retiring without fuss in 1978. |
