Biography | Ernie debuted in the last war-time League South encounter at Swansea Town on 4 May 1946, having signed eight years earlier and spent the intervening years on war service in the Royal Navy. He quickly established himself as first choice 'keeper in the first post war season and played in every game during both championship seasons conceeding at less than a goal a game. Possessed of huge hands, Ernie was good in the air and had a fine positional sense, his career unfortunately ended with a hand injury. |
