September 26-30: The Injury List Grows After Flewin Is Rushed To Hospital

Monday 26:  Pompey, who face league-leaders Wolves on Saturday, have eight injured players under treatment: Hindmarsh (knee), Ferrier (cut eye), Scoular (bruised shin), Flewin (groin), Reid (bruised abdomen), Phillips (ankle), Froggatt (knee), Thompson (knee). 

Tuesday 27:  Pompey suffered a further injury blow last night when their centre-half and captain Reg Flewin was rushed to hospital and operated on for appendicitis. He is likely to be out of the team for approximately two months.

Pompey's lengthy injury list means it will be a much-weakened side that travels to Hove to play Arsenal in a testimonial match tomorrow. The probable side: Butler, Yeuell, Rookes, Elder, Cairney, Spence, Dawson, Delapenha, Asher, Gordon, Parker 

A youthful Pompey Reserves side will play Brentford Reserves at Griffin Park in a Combination League fixture tomorrow night: Humpston, Turner, Mansell, Duggins, Ferguson, Andrews, King, Pearson, Field, Pickett, Bennett.

British Railways will be running a special excursion to Birmingham for Pompey's match at St Andrew's on 8th October. The train leaves Portsmouth Harbour at 8.40am. The return journey leaves Birmingham at 7.15pm. Return fare is 21s 3d. 

Wednesday 28:  A young and inexperienced Pompey side beat a near full-strength Arsenal 2-1 in a testimonial match for former Brighton manager Mr Charles Webb at The Goldstone Ground tonight. Syd Asher and Jimmy Elder scored the Pompey goals. 

A Pompey Reserves side composed mainly of teenagers went down 3-0 to Brentford Reserves at Griffin Park this evening. Goalkeeper Ron Humpston turned in a fine performance to limit the margin of defeat. 

Brentford Reserves 3, Portsmouth Reserves 0

Friday 30:  Fit-again Bill Hindmarsh replaces Jasper Yeuell at right-back in Pompey's team to face Wolves at Fratton Park tomorrow. Bill Thompson will deputise at centre-half for Reg Flewin, who has had an operation for appendicitis. 

With Reg Flewin likely to be absent from the Pompey side for several weeks, Harry Ferrier has been named as the Blues' stand-in captain and he will lead the side against Wolves at Fratton Park tomorrow. 

The full Pompey side to face Wolves at Fratton Park tomorrow (3pm) will be: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Thompson, Dickinson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt. 

Pompey are expecting their biggest crowd of the season so far when they entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow. Supporters are being urged to arrive early for the League Champions v FA Cup winners clash. 

A number of Pompey players will be at LDB tomorrow morning before they head to Fratton Park for their First Division match against Wolves. 

Pompey Reserves face Charlton Athletic Reserves in a Combinatin League match at the Valley tomorrow afternoon (3pm). Team: Humpston, Yeuell, Rookes, Spence, Cairney, Pickett, Dawson, Gordon, Asher, Elder, Parker. 

Pompey "A" are away to Southampton "A" in the Hampshire League tomorrow. Team: Aslett, Turner, Mansell, Gunter, Howard, Andrews, King, Pearson, Field, Wilson, Henwood.
