Result: Pompey 5 - 0 Grimsby Town Goalscorers: Jack Froggatt (2), Ike Clarke (2), Len Phillips Attendance: 39,364

Pompey kept themselves on course for the league and cup "double" by hammering Grimsby Town 5-0 in front of an excited crowd of 39,364 at Fratton Park this afternoon.

from the moment Jack Froggatt nodded Pompey in front from Parker’s cross on ten minutes it was clear that it would be a long afternoon for the gallant but hard-pressed visitors.

Pompey doubled their lead through Ike Clarke In the eighteenth minute.

After the break Clarke scored again from close quarters before Froggatt also grabbed his second with a first-time drive.

With less than a minute to go Clarke sent Len Phillps away and the inside-left completed the rout by drilling an angled shot past the Grimsby 'keeper.

The inclusion of 36-year-old Parker was more than justified. What he lacked in pace he made up for with his ability to drop the ball on a sixpence, and he laid on four of the goals!

The receipts from this afternoon's Fratton Park crowd of 39,364 amounted to £3,718-9s-9d.
