January 16-22: Pompey Put Pressure On The League Leaders

Wednesday 18: Portsmouth Reserves 0, Reading Reserves 1 (Mid Week League)

Saturday 21:  Pompey, who entertain Huddersfield Town this afternoon, make one alteration to the side that won at Everton last week. Jack Froggatt is fit again and he replaces Cliff Parker at outside-left.

The full Pompey side to play against Huddersfield this afternoon is: Butler, Hindmarsh, Ferrier, Scoular, Flewin, Dickinson, Harris, Reid, Clarke, Phillips, Froggatt.

Pompey Reserves continue their Combination Cup fixtures this afternoon with a visit to The Den to face Millwall Reserves.

There will be some military "top brass" in the Fratton Park directors' box for this afternoon's Pompey v Huddersfield Town match. The Blues' president, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, will be joined by Admiral of the Fleet Sir Algernon Willis.

The final whistle has sounded at Fratton Park and  Pompey have crushed Huddersfield Town.

Result: Pompey 4 - 0 Huddersfield Town Pompey goalscorers: Wheeler (og), Duggie Reid, Jack Froggatt (2) Attendance: 29,746

Pompey totally over-ran lowly Huddersfield Town at Fratton Park this afternoon to win 4-0 and keep up the pressure on their rivals in the race for the League Championship.

Pompey were perhaps a shade fortunate to go ahead after half an hour when Town's 'keeper Wheeler gathered a cross from Jack Froggatt, but dropped it over his line under pressure from Duggie Reid.

Wheeler stood between Pompey and a cricket score as his goal was peppered with shots in the second half, but he was beaten by Reid when the big Scotsman nipped in to score Pompey's second after an hour.

It was now simply a question of "how many?" as Pompey poured foward in search of more goals. Froggatt made it three when his close range effort evaded Wheeler's outstretched arms.

Pompey's fourth and final goal came from a magnificent curling free-kick from Froggatt. It was their 50th League goal of the campaign. Only Sunderland have scored more.

Pompey now get a two-week break from League action, but there will be no time off for the players. On Monday they will start preparing for next week's eagerly-awaited FA Cup fourth-round tie against Grimsby. The "double" is still within their grasp

Match Summary: Portsmouth 4, Huddersfield Town 0

Pompey Reserves' Combination Cup prospects took a turn for the worse when they tumbled to a 3-0 defeat against Millwall Reserves in their group match at The Den this afternoon.
